Welcome to Poncha Springs Community Theatre! Led by director Laura ReVelle Schwartz,
We offer a series of YouthTheatre Workshops for Children, with Adult Theatre coming soon. Beginning July 30, with Friday classes every week from 4:00 - 5:30 through Dec. 10, for children ages 6 -13, the workshop will conclude with a final, exciting performance on Dec. 11, 2010 A director and teacher with over 30 years of professional experience, Mrs. Schwartz has been directing Musical Theatre in Colorado since 2001, with "Damn Yankees, Annie, The Wizard of Oz, and Pirates of Penzance" among her many Community Theatre presentations. Currently, she teaches Music / Theatre Arts at Mountain Valley School in Saguache, as well as directing the STARS! program weekly in Salida.
Laura is thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase Poncha Springs 'hidden' gem, their historic stage and theater, upstairs in Town Hall. Workshop students will focus on the three main components of musical theatre: acting, singing, and choreography, and gain experience in creating scenery, costuming, and props. As always, Laura provides the highest level of theatrical opportunities for children in a safe, caring environment where all children can express their creativity. And nothing is quite as much fun as being on stage! Children love the opportunity to be part of a theatrical production, and the Poncha Springs YouthTheatre Workshop will offer that experience--and more! Our Workshops are created to educate and entertain by producing significant theatre experiences, created especially for young people, tailored to meet their formative needs. We believe that art, fun, and education must work hand-in-hand to cultivate young minds and offer opportunities for them to learn from the history, life lessons and values presented through dramatic storytelling, song, and movement.

LET'S PUT ON A SHOW!! •
While preparing a musical play, workshop members learn basic stage skills and let their imaginations soar! Theater games and exercises are an important part of every session. Every show is made up of a team of individuals who learn to support each other as they develop as performers. Positive cast interaction and the value of everyone’s contribution are strongly emphasized. The Presentation will be specifically written for children and completely age-appropriate. Workshop members not only learn songs, dialogue, and movement, but also make choices for scenery, props, set-dressing and costumes. Of course, the actual performance is the highlight of the workshop! From curtain up to the final ovation, the enjoyment is shared by family and friends. Future Offerings will also include Theatre for Adults, Reader's Theatre, Musicals, Plays and Comedies for Adults and Children, with the anticipation of a Poncha Springs Community Chorale!
